The
first game for the new Englandfans, and most travelled
up to Birmingham in the afternoon to sample a few local
pubs before the action. England started brightly, and
Shaun Wright-Phillips looked dangerous on his first start
for England, but the game faded as a contest after half-time.
The top English scorer in the Premiership, Andy Johnson,
was introduced on the right wing in one of Sven's less
inspired moves, whilst the 7th choice defensive pairing
of Carragher and Wes Brown kept a van Nistelrooy-less
Holland at bay.An enjoyable night of international football
despite the lack of goalmouth action, and also the first
encounter with John Portsmouth Football Club Westwood,
who enraged much of the Holte End with his constant bell-ringing
and pathetic bugle-playing, and was not amused when "The
Saints Go Marching In" started up.
