Cider Preparation 2005
The last few weeks have seen us begin to get everything together for this years cider making session. On Sunday 16th October a team of HMZ-ers plus Al Caholic and Jack The Hat (who we are making cider with this year) set off for our Glastonbury apple suppliers orchard to pick our crop. Although the harvest was not as generous as last year, we still managed to fill our hired van with the good supply of varieties such as Kingston Blacks and Morgan Sweets. A big thank you to Terry the Farmer for letting us have some of this delicious fruit.

And here is Lord Lucan excitedly opening our new press during the previous weekend. It's small but perfectly formed, and was a bargain of £88 from Machine Mart (more details on their website here). Al Caholic also has one of these, so we'll hopefully be having some dual-pressing action going on.

Other preparation work that has been going on prior to our big pressing weekend of 22nd/23rd October has included the cleaning of our barrels, and the modification of a garden shredder to turn it into a vicious weapon of apple pulping destruction!. With torrential rain storms forecast for the rest of this week we are now just keeping our fingers crossed that we won't be getting too soaked or electrocuted for the love of our cider this weekend! Tune in next week to find out, and see some photos...
