CUTLER
OF THE WEST - Adge Cutler & The Wurzels |
THE
FINEST HARVEST OF... - The Wurzels featuring Adge Cutler |
NEVER MIND
THE BULLOCKS - The Wurzels |
A
TASTE OF THE WEST - The Wurzels |
|
The
only full Adge Cutler album available on CD (the 3rd record he made).
Absolutely brilliant. Musically tighter than the first two, but without
losing any of Adge's unique humour. Worth buying just for the chatter
between songs, but the tunes are awesome too. Highlights include "The
Charlton Mackrell Jug Band", "Thee's Got'n Where Thee Cassn't
Back'n, Hassn't? "and rock 'n' roll classic "Up The Clump"
featuring Tommy Banner on piano - wish they would still play this Live
now. Highly recommended CD. £6.99 |
All the classics. A great
mixture of hits from the current line-up: "Combine Harvester"
(the original No.1 and the 2001 Dance Remix!), "I Am A Cider Drinker",
"Blackbird" and the most popular tracks by Adge Cutler's original
band including "Drink Up Thy Zider". Listening to the genius
lyrics of "Twice Daily", "Champion Dung Spreader",
etc, confirms Adge as one of the country's greatest ever writers. |
A
selection of modern hits Wurzel-ised by the lads, including tracks by Oasis,
Robbie Williams & Shaggy(!). A great CD to play at parties and watch
people look around confused saying "what the hell is this?!?".
Some songs suit the Wurzels style better than others, (the cover version
of "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" by Travis is a definite improvement
on the original), and the CD is good fun from start to finish. £7.99 |
The
Wurzels' most recent album is also made up of cover versions, but this time
covers of their own songs! 12 songs all about local places, with Tommy &
Pete chatting about each location between songs, while a sound effects CD
is played in the background to try and convince you they're actually there!
£7.99 (what I reckon would have been a really good idea is if they'd arranged a gig at each place mentioned in the songs, and recorded each song "live" at the relevant place with the crowd singing along. Well-attended gigs, increased interest in album from fans who were there and local media, a much more interesting CD. Perfect. If it also ended with a version of "Drink Up Thy Zider" recorded live at Ashton Gate then that would sell a few thousand more records for start. If the Wurzels want anymore great album ideas than feel free to give us a shout!!!) |
