The Railway Inn, Newnham |

In December 2005 we visited The Railway Inn in Newnham, Gloucestershire, to investigate the landlord's
claim to have the biggest collection of cider out of all pubs in the country...
...From our experience of British pubs, we had to
agree with him, and soon set about trying to sample as many of the 9 ciders on tap, and 35-ish bottled
varieties. Landlord David Price is pictured with 2 of the finest above. |

Two cider-makers that had their products on sell
at the bar were on hand to talk to us about their cider, Nick Bull of Awre (left) and Ray Tosh
of Pleasant Style. |
Ray's "Tosher's Tipple" and Nick's "Severn Sider Cider" up close and empty.
Ray Tosh (not to be confused with Tosh from
The Bill) stocks up on some of his own cider before we can drink it all. |
A few more local rival ciders on offer. Most of these were packaged by the same bottling company,
and each cider-maker seemed to be trying to out-do each other on who had the best label, as well as
the best cider.
Thanks very much to all the staff, drinkers and
cider-makers at The Railway Inn who made us feel very welcome on our visit. We cannot recommend a trip
to this cider-heaven enough! |
