Karaoke Carnage |

Various NUFC players have been sharing their memories of Saturday's karaoke night with us - here's a collection of what they can remember: Saturday's
karaoke night was opened with a Chairman / Vice Chairman duet, with Spencer
Lee and Barry Samson blasting out the lyrics to American Pie in true Karaoke
fashion, and after a couple of tunes from the "Evolution Mobile Discotheque"
it was the turn of A-team Assistant Manager Midge Samson, who was by far
the surprise of the night with a superb rendition of Sitting by the
Dock of the Bay. It would later unravel that Midge was in fact our
only hope as next it was the turn of the drunken players... and things
were about to get embarrassing!
The evening then saw the surprise return to the entertainment world of one of the biggest bands of all time. For one night only the Grove Sports centre Nailsea was the venue of the Take That reunion. All the original members of the band were present, Jason Orange and Gary Barlow sporting pink t-shirts, and the viewing public were left in no doubt that the rumours were true. The women in the crowd received the number one hit Back for Food with great enthusiasm, clambering at the stage to get at Robbie, Mark and Howard. As per usual the female attention did not distract the lads from giving a superb performance enjoyed by all. Next up was the night’s raffle, after which Chairman Spencer Lee is now wanted for questioning over allegations of raffle fixing. First and second prizes were a holiday for 2 each to Madrid, a total of 4 tickets. With the Chairman's two sons being drawn for first and second prize. The Lee family now have a nice holiday for 4 to Madrid, actually beating the odds of 4950 to 1, but suspicion increased when it was confirmed that Spencer submitted a holiday request form at work for the exact same week…the case continues. Following the raffle was the night's main event. The audience had all pledged their hard earned cash for the act they wanted to see. The phone lines were closed and the votes had been counted. As the smoke cleared those immortal words were spoken, "Tonight Matthew, I am going to be…. Aqua?” …….it was Barry Sampson singing Barbie Girl accompanied by Smith and Vickers, and then Smith and Vickers stayed on stage to do a rendition of It Must Be Love by Madness without any prompting, and did well to avoiding the Karaoke organiser’s attempts to grab back the microphones. The
people's favourite performance of the night was the encore, which came
long after the curtains had shut. The closeness and jubilation of the
group, which this event had generated, was clear for all to see as everyone
linked together with sweaty armpits over each others shoulders (except
Liam Horton and Matt Long who were too busy doing The Chicken)
and burst into an unaccompanied vocal harmony singing…… It was now time for the Grove to call in the heavies to earn their money, and the players and management were ushered from the dance floor to the chorus of Red Army, and then it was time for a quick game of Sleeping Lions before heading for the secret rendevous point for more alcohol and some stand-up comedy. Thanks goes
to those who supplied the above extracts. |
